Kayla IbarraVisiting Instructor, Theater Studies

Biography

Kayla Ibarra (she/they) is a mixed-race Mexican theater artist and educator. She creates survivor-centered work and explores how we can find healing from the traumas we’ve experienced in our lives. Currently she is developing two projects. The first of these, Invisible Soldiers, is a play that explores how we support survivors after sexual trauma. The play portrays how survivors are often put on trial even if they never spend a single day in court. The other, Star Party, invites audiences to come on a journey of stargazing and experience the world through the artist’s perspective as a neurodivergent queer womxn of color.

Kayla received her BA from Colorado State University and her MFA from California Institute of the Arts. Kayla has been with the SheLA festival since its first year in 2019, initially as a House Manager, and now as a Show Mentor. This coming summer Kayla will be helping with the 2022 SheATL festival.
