Study Abroad

Like Emory College, Theater Studies is committed to internationalization through study abroad, which encourages both intellectual and personal growth through challenging training, scholarly study, and cultural immersion.

Students must apply, first, to Emory's Study Abroad Program and then to the specific program.

Three opportunities for study abroad in theater offer a variety of training experiences.

  1. A semester program in Arezzo, Italy, at the Accademia dell'Arte, focuses on physical theater. Commedia dell'Arte is the focus for movement and bodywork, voice, mask making, and a seminar on the philosophy of art and performance. It has provided transformative experiences for many students, who live in a villa, travel, and learn to speak Italian!
  2. A semester at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) provides concentrated acting work in a conservatory setting: 30 hours a week of acting, improvisation, voice, movement, singing, textual analysis, physical theater, Alexander Technique, and historical dance, with a particular emphasis and Shakespeare and other classical periods.
  3. Emory's British Studies Program at Oxford University offers summer classes in Shakespeare and contemporary British drama. The program includes much theatergoing in London and Stratford.
